Anyway, back to the resolutions. I'm going to focus on the financial ones here:
- Go see a lawyer about adding my name to the title of the house. This has just become extra important recently, for reasons which, sadly, I don't dare go into here. I learned the hard way on my other blog that the walls have ears, so to speak. But it involves the laws in my province and a new addition to the family (no, not a baby).
- pay back my personal savings
- pay off my credit card, making sure that it's ME that's paying for my husband's Christmas presents (this is why I'm not doing an update yet...I can't bear to take the money out of my account to pay for this! Plus I don't get my interest until the end of January).
- build up our short-term emergency fund to...I don't know yet. $2000? $5000?
- Maybe build up the cushion in our chequing account to $2000 (so $5000 total that we don't touch). I don't know if this is necessary, though. I already boosted it up to $4000 total just today (remember that I have to keep a minimum of $3000 in there at all times in order to avoid paying bank fees). The $1000 cushion might be enough.
- If there's anything left, use it to build up the long-term emergency fund.
- Plan for and be ready for Christmas by December 1 next year--I intend to shop all year for next Christmas. I say this every year, though, and I never, ever do it. Someday I will!!!
